International Band Competition at the Palau de la Música

The Palau de la Música in Valencia will host the 136th edition of the International Band Contest "Ciudad de València" from July 18 to 21.

This year, the CIBM will welcome over 40 bands from various countries, although the majority of participants are musical groups from Valencia.

21 of them will compete in various categories performing renowned works such as "Cerulean Overture" by Julio Domingo, "Sucro Oppidum" by Javier Martínez Campos, "Ceremonies" by Ellen Taafe Zwilich, or "L’ARBRE BLANC" by Pere Vicalet from July 18 to 21.

Guests will include the Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia, the young Symphonic Band of the Federation of Musical Societies of the Valencian Community, and the Cerrito High School Wind Symphony from the USA.

The International Band Music Competition "City of Valencia" is the only annual competition of its kind. It is extraordinary due to its age, tradition, and the quantity and quality of musicians who participate.

Additionally, from July 13 to 17, there will be various concerts, conferences, and roundtable discussions to enhance the experience. Here are some highlights:

• On Saturday, July 13, at 8:30 PM, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the inaugural event titled "Sonar Valencia: Eco-sonic Landscape of the City" will take place, featuring many bands and groups.

• On Sunday, July 14, at 11:00 AM, also in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the concert "Off-Certamen: Symphonic Mascletà" will be held by youth bands.

• On Monday, July 15, at 9:00 AM, at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Valencia, the 27th International Wind Music Conference (IGEB) will take place, and at 7:00 PM, there will be a roundtable with various directors and composers at the Conservatorio Municipal José Iturbi.

• On Tuesday, July 16, at 7:00 PM, also at the Conservatorio Municipal José Iturbi, the conference "International Perspectives on the Band Phenomenon" will be held, followed by a performance at 10:30 PM in Plaza de la Virgen by the Youth Band of Agrupació Musical l’Amistat de Quart de Poblet.

• Finally, on Wednesday, July 17, at 7:30 PM, at the Palau de la Música, the Young National Orchestra of Spain will perform.
