Visit one of the most important temples in the historic centre following its meticulous restoration.
The Church of Los Santos Juanes, one of the great treasures in the heart of Valencia (alongside La Lonja and the Central Market), reopens its doors after the fire that destroyed it in 1936.
After five years of restoration work and a €10 million project funded entirely by the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, visitors can once again cross this temple’s threshold.
The outcome is spectacular!
Renovation work has restored the building to its original appearance, reinforcing walls, repairing facades and reviving distinctive features such as Gothic windows, gargoyles, popular sculptures in the Mercat square and the facade facing the Lonja.
The most impressive part, however, is inside.
Decades of work and research have led to the restoration of practically all of Antonio Palomino’s Baroque pictorial decoration, along with details of the central nave and most of the side chapels.
To top it all off, visitors to the Church of Los Santos Juanes are treated to an immersive video mapping show called “Barroc”, which transforms the dome and interior of the church into a moving canvas.
The show features music composed and recorded specifically for this experience, with works by Comes and Cabanilles performed by Valencian musicians, and staging that brings eight centuries of history to life in just a few minutes.
