Experience an interactive exhibition that transforms the museum into one enormous dance floor
The Science Museum is presenting “Bailar! El arte de moverse” (Dance! The Art of Movement), an immersive exhibition created through a collaboration between the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris and the Centre National de la Danse.
This innovative exhibition breaks away from the traditional museum format, demonstrating that dance is a universal language, open to everyone regardless of age or physical ability.
And yes—during the exhibition... you’ll be invited to get up and dance!
The Exhibition
The exhibition is divided into three main areas, each inviting visitors to explore their bodies after buying a ticket.
In ‘Spin’, you’ll test your balance and sense of rhythm through circular movements; in ‘Jump’, you’ll defy gravity at interactive stations that measure your jumping power and energy; and in ‘Come Together’, you’ll take part in group choreographies that recreate the atmosphere of a family celebration.
And as well as dance, there’s no shortage of technology at “¡Bailar! El arte de moverse”.
At the Dancing Ring, a circular dance floor surrounded by screens, you can learn the steps of the waltz, the branle, and disco dancing in 30-minute sessions. With the Dance via Avatar installation, motion sensors capture your movements and transform them in real time into giant digital characters.
The exhibition also features The Dance of the Shoes, an intriguing display of footwear showing how shoes are designed and adapted for different dance styles, as well as a screening of Dance Matters, which explores the cultural significance of dance around the world.
