Jubilee Masses at Valencia Cathedral
TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center
Join in the ceremony, see the Holy Chalice up close, and be forgiven for your sins.
Valencia Cathedral is a Jubilee See, celebrating a truly special Holy Year.
The temple has become an official place of pilgrimage for those seeking plenary indulgence, or forgiveness for their sins.
The city was chosen for its historical significance and splendour during the Valencian Golden Age. Two of the city’s residents became popes, and, perhaps most importantly, the cathedral houses the Holy Chalice, traditionally identified as the vessel used by Jesus at the Last Supper.
If you come to visit the city this year, you have until 29 October to attend one of the Masses, experience first-hand what the Jubilee means, and see one of Christianity’s most important treasures up close.
Of course, a ceremony such as this would be fine in any church in the world. However, when celebrated here, at the Jubilee See and in the presence of the Holy Chalice, it takes on a spiritual significance that you will not find anywhere else on the planet.
Mass times
Services are held every day at 9:30 a.m. and on Thursdays also at 8:00 p.m.
If you want to experience something even more special, come on a Sunday at 12:00 p.m. to the Mass presided over by the bishop, the archbishop or one of their assistants.
That’s right, the successor of the apostles himself will lead the rite of reconciliation in the diocese and grant you the jubilee blessing.
What a privilege!
