Explore four centuries of history in the old factory of the Digital Arts Centre in Valencia
The former Bombas Gens factory, along with the Mediterranean garden, the medieval wine cellar and the Civil War air-raid shelter, form part of a heritage site that is very special to the city.
Originally built in 1930, this space now serves as a hub where digital arts coexist with other contemporary cultural practices.
Would you like to find out more? The entire complex is part of the guided tour programme that the centre has organised under the name “Habited Memory”.
If you book a place now, you’ll be able to take a closer look at the battle scars and historical triumphs with a tour guide, along with visual aids such as a tablet and historical documents.
Route description
During the tour, visitors can learn more about the former hydraulic pump factory with its beautiful Art Deco façade, the Civil War bunker, which reminds us that mortar shells were manufactured here during that period, the fully restored 15th-century wine cellar, and the Mediterranean garden.
It used to be the factory’s back garden, but is now teeming with life, home to over 100 species and a sculpture by the Spanish artist Cristina Iglesias.
However, the direct connection with those who came before us is a key part of all this.
Here you can put yourself in the shoes of the farmers and workers who made the Marxalenes neighbourhood rise again and feel what those who needed to use the air-raid shelter during the Civil War experienced.
