Mechanical and Technical Imaginaries in the IVAM Collection

“Welcome to the machine century”

That is the premise of this exhibition on the imaginaries that almost 300 artists have created with the aim of reflecting the spirit of the industrial culture that surrounded them.

Back in the early 20th century, machines were the symbol of progress and industrialisation, promising effectiveness and speed.

The cinema, the camera, the telephone, the automobile, and household appliances began to come bursting into our everyday lives, and had a clear impact on the world of art.

Photographs, paintings, sculptures, drawings, comics, videos and even collages are all on display in this exhibition, which is organised in nine sections.

The exhibition is perfectly complemented by other activities such as lectures by Vicente Sánchez-Biosca, Professor of Audio-visual Communication; Paula Barreiro, Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Grenoble-Alpes; and the artist Daniel Canogar, who will also give a workshop in June.

You can visit the IVAM until 17 October to see it on your own or enjoy a guided tour.
