Immersive experience “The Lascaux cave” in Valencia

Categories: exhibitions.

TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center

Discover how our ancestors lived with this virtual reality experience that takes you back to the origins of cave art.

Can you imagine entering a prehistoric cave without getting muddy or carrying a torch?

Well, get ready, because the Valencia Museum of Prehistory has just opened an exhibition that will make your wish come true.

It is called “The Lascaux cave. A virtual journey into the past” and it is its first time in Spain after visiting 13 countries and 18 cities around the world.

Until March 2026, you can live this immersive virtual reality experience that will take you back 21,000 years—to the Palaeolithic—to discover how our ancestors painted and lived.

What can you expect at this exhibition?

The protagonists are the paintings of the mythical cave of Lascaux (France), known as the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistory”.

Here you will see up close—and almost be able to touch—the imposing “Black Cow”, the mysterious “Man of the Well” and the bison, horses and deer that artists of millennia ago left engraved in stone.

All with incredible quality.

And that’s not all!

You’ll also see extremely realistic sculptures of Homo sapiens created by French artist Elizabeth Daynès, which will make you rethink whether or not we’ve really changed that much since then.

There are also models, interactive modules and an area to draw your own cave bison.

The museum has even prepared an activity booklet for you to compare the Lascaux paintings with those of the Parpalló cave in Gandía, one of the Valencian jewels of the Palaeolithic.

Come and put on your virtual reality glasses and travel 21,000 years back in time without leaving Valencia!

I’ll be there!
