Buñuelos are that sweet, crispy bite that signals the arrival of Fallas. There is no celebration without their unmistakable aroma of fried dough, nor any hot chocolate that doesn’t taste better when paired with freshly made buñuelos — even better if they are artisanal and made with pumpkin!
If you’re looking for a classic in the historic center, both Bertal (Plaza de la Reina, 12) and Chocolatería Valor (Plaza de la Reina, 20) are great options to combine buñuelos with a good hot chocolate. Heladería-Chocolatería Dr. Collado (Ercilla, 13) is also a safe bet. Here, thick chocolate and crispy buñuelos have been the stars since 1892. During Fallas, a very long queue forms at its door, but it’s well worth the wait!
When it comes to tradition, we can’t forget Horchatería Daniel, with locations in the Mercado de Colón and Calle del Mar; Horchatería Fabián (Moratín, 1); and Horchatería Santa Catalina (Plaza Santa Catalina, 6), both offering an irresistible selection of buñuelos, chocolate, and fartons.
In the heart of the Ruzafa neighborhood, Buñolería El Contraste (San Valero, 12) is an institution. With more than a century of history, it is one of the places that serves pumpkin buñuelos all year round, using a recipe passed down from generation to generation that continues to win over the biggest sweet lovers.
Another must-visit option is very close to the Jardines de Viveros: Horchatería Mari Toñi (Alboraia, 23), famous for its homemade horchata and traditional buñuelos. A lifelong local spot where quality and authenticity go hand in hand.
Oh! And if a regular buñuelo isn’t enough for you, at Churrería del Barrio (Burgos, 2, in the L’Olivereta neighborhood) they come in XXL size. They’re made from October to March, becoming an essential stop if you’re a fan of this sweet treat.
At Casa Piloto (Gayano Lluch, 32, in the Benicalap neighborhood) you’ll also find homemade buñuelos, churros, and porras with that old-fashioned flavor that never fails.
But wait, because if there’s one name that stands out in the world of buñuelos, it’s Bienve. Its fame goes beyond neighborhoods and generations, and eating one of its buñuelos is a must-do pilgrimage.
Its secret? Natural pumpkins grown in Vilamarxant, selected year after year to guarantee the best flavor. You can try their buñuelos at Heladería Glasol on Avenida Antic Regne, 22, at the corner with Pintor Salvador Abril.
Go ahead and try the best buñuelos in València and pair them with whatever you like most!
