«Music and Mathematics» Exhibition at CaixaForum in Valencia
Categories: exhibitions, music.
TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center
Come to the exhibition that, through logic, will show you that the universe also resonates.
If you love music, if mathematics fascinates you, or if you simply want to understand why both disciplines are far more connected than they seem, you absolutely have to visit the new CaixaForum exhibition!
“Music and Mathematics. A Sound Journey from Chaos to Cosmos” is an interactive and audiovisual exhibition that invites you to discover how sound really works, why a melody moves us —or doesn’t— and how numbers lie behind absolutely everything we hear.
Here you’ll touch, play, listen, and experiment
Yes! You’ll see how a string vibrates and generates waves, imitate the timbre of different instruments, try combinations of notes, rhythm, and resonance, and understand with your own ears what makes a sound harmonious—or not.
And this is just the beginning.
Questions that will finally have answers
The exhibition focuses on answering questions you’ve probably asked yourself at some point.
What did the Big Bang sound like? How does the ear work? What are harmonics, timbre, or the golden ratio? Why is a musical instrument a perfect mathematical machine?
Through seven sections —like the notes of a scale— you’ll travel from absolute silence to sound itself, passing through Pythagoras, Kepler, the physics of sound, and even modern electronics.
And what about the role of music?
The exhibition also explores its therapeutic power, its ability to activate sensory, cognitive, and emotional areas, and its impact on people with autism, brain injuries, or neurodegenerative diseases.
More complete… impossible!
