Renau in Exile at the IVAM

Categories: exhibitions.

TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center

The museum presents 'Renau in Exile', an exceptional exhibition that you can see at the IVAM until January 9th, 2022

The exhibition is inspired by the artistic work of Josep Renau, the Valencian poster artist, muralist, and writer, over the course of his lifetime. The show focuses above all on the time he spent as an exile, firstly in Mexico, from 1939 to 1958, and then in East Germany, from 1958 to 1982.

Throughout his lifetime, Renau enjoyed great prestige, particularly in the political and intellectual circles that promoted the function of art as an instrument at the service of social revolution.

The Valencian artist, though, was also a great cultural manager. During the Second Republic, in Valencia, he was a pioneer of the artistic avant-garde. In 1989, the IVAM received a large legacy of his works, archives, and personal library.
