Corregudes de Joies: horse races on Pinedo beach
Categories: sport, parties and traditions.
TOURISTIC AREA: Outskirts
180 years of tradition gallop along Valencia’s Pinedo Beach
From August 12 to 15, the beach of La Creu de la Conca in Pinedo is hosting the traditional Correguda de Joies, an equestrian competition in which the participants ride 700 meters of beach on horseback without any kind of saddle.
For four days, the riders battle it out in knockout duels set in a unique natural landscape, the goal being to win the competition and receive as a trophy the joia - a silk scarf on a laurel wreath.
Historically, more than 150 years ago, most of the villages in the Horta Sud region staged this unique kind of horse race in their farms.
These days, Pinedo is the only Valencian town that continues to celebrate the Correguda de Joies during its patron saint festivals, so don't miss this opportunity to enjoy this cultural event of provincial tourist interest.
Tradition, history and sport await you on the beach of this Valencian town.
Don't miss it!
