"Cendrillon": Viardot's unique opera in Les Arts
Categories: music, show.
TOURISTIC AREA: City of Arts and Alameda
Joan Font is coming to the Martín i Soler Theatre of Les Arts to present “Cendrillon”, the chamber operetta composed by Pauline Viardot and based on the classic tale, "Cinderella".
This comic work, which premiered in Paris in the early 20th century, is notable for its kind and worldly character, and for a hedonistic spirit that characterizes each of the opera's three acts.
In "Cendrillon", the evil stepmother from Perrault's tale, from which the composer drew her inspiration, is replaced by a clumsy and clueless father, and the Fairy Godmother shows up as a one more guest at the party. Still, the rest of the story is pretty faithful to the original.
Marcelo Solís, Rosa María Dávida, Mariana García and Pilar Garrido perform this peculiar version of “Cinderella” on stage, accompanied by a unique soundtrack featuring waltzes, cuplés, mazurkas, polkas and other nostalgic music.
Viardot's “Cendrillon” is rarely performed these days, so get your ticket and don't miss this chance to see it live.
