Art, mystery, and a legendary relic that continues to spark curiosity

The Parpalló Hall of the MuVIM hosts “A World to Discover. The Holy Grail of Valencia,” an exhibition that invites visitors to explore in depth the historical, religious, and cultural significance of the Holy Grail, one of Valencia’s most emblematic heritage pieces. The exhibition offers an educational approach that reveals its history, symbolism, and the secrets surrounding this relic linked to the Last Supper.

Art, history, and symbolism

The exhibition includes a section dedicated to the presence of the Holy Grail in painting, showing how artists, ecclesiastical authorities, and different sectors of society have, throughout the centuries, embraced its character as a sacred relic. This process gave rise to a rich iconography that today represents a visual heritage of great interest.

Another highlight of the exhibition is the surprising connection between the Grail of Valencia and cinema, as well as certain representations of Wagnerian operas, where it was identified with the Holy Grail of the Arthurian tradition. This journey includes references to prominent figures such as Richard Wagner, the tenor Francisco Viñas, Valencian writer Teodor Llorente Olivares, and sculptor Mariano Benlliure.
