Celebrate the Spanish Sail Grand Prix in Valencia
Categories: sport.
TOURISTIC AREA: Sea towns, Marina and beaches
The city is set to become the epicenter of high-performance sailing.
Have you ever seen a catamaran flying over the water at over 100 km/h? On September 5th and 6th, you have the opportunity to see it live, from the shore, in Valencia. SailGP has chosen the city as the host venue for the Spain Grand Prix until 2028, and the first edition promises to be a spectacle that will be hard to forget.
When is SailGP in Valencia?
Mark your calendar: Saturday, September 5th, and Sunday, September 6th, 2026. The qualifying sessions take place on Saturday, and the finals arrive on Sunday, with all the excitement concentrated into a few hours and very close to the shore. The exact schedules for each session will be published on sailgp.com as they are confirmed, so we recommend keeping an eye on it.
Can I watch it from the shore?
Yes, and that is one of the great advantages of SailGP: the races are held very close to the coast, so you can follow the action from land without missing a beat. The competition will take place in front of Valencia's waterfront, in a setting already well-acquainted with major nautical events: the America's Cup was held here, and the SM La Reina Trophy is celebrated here.
The exact location of the village, the grandstands, and public access points will be announced soon. As soon as we know, we will update it here.
How do I get tickets?
Tickets for the Spain Sail Grand Prix are already on sale on the official SailGP website. You can choose from different options: general access, areas with privileged views, and VIP packages with paddock access. If you want to secure a good spot, it's best not to leave it until the last minute: it's the first year in Valencia, and anticipation is high.
You can buy tickets for one of the two days or for the entire weekend. One-day tickets start at 44 euros for children (between 5 and 17 years old) and 72 euros for adults. And weekend tickets start at 69 euros for children and 115 euros for adults. There are 15% discounts when purchasing two adult and two child weekend tickets.
What exactly will you see?
SailGP is the most spectacular high-speed international sailing championship in the world. The teams compete in identical F50 catamarans, machines equipped with foils—hydrodynamic fins that literally lift the hull above the water—capable of exceeding 100 km/h on the surface of the sea.
Thirteen teams from thirteen countries participate in each grand prix: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Spain, the United States, France, Great Britain, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and Brazil. The races are short, intense, and held very close to the shore, making them a perfect spectacle for the public. You don't need to know anything about sailing to enjoy it.
The Spanish team: "Los Gallos" compete at home
The Spanish SailGP team is called "Los Gallos" (The Roosters), and they have many reasons to shine in Valencia. They are the champions of the fourth season of the circuit, one of the youngest groups to have competed in SailGP, and this time, they are racing in front of their home fans.
The skipper is Diego Botín, along with Florian Trittel. The team is completed by flight controller Joel Rodríguez, tactician Joan Cardona, strategist Nicole van der Velden, and grinder Bernardo Freitas. A crew with talent, experience, and the extra motivation of competing at home. It’s hard not to cheer for them.
Why it's worth going
Beyond the competition itself, the SailGP in Valencia will feature a program of activities for the general public: a village zone, hospitality, nautical technology exhibitions, and experiences for all profiles, whether you are a sailing enthusiast or simply want to spend a great weekend by the sea.
And if you combine the event with everything the city has to offer in September—beach, gastronomy, nightlife—you have a weekend plan that is hard to beat.
How to get to the waterfront?
The most convenient way during the event days is by public transport. You can get there by metro (lines 3 and 5, Marítim-Serreria or Neptú stops), by city bus (lines 4, 19, 92, and 95 from the center), or by bicycle using the city's extensive network of bike lanes. The port area gets crowded during major events, so it's better to leave the car at home and enjoy the ride.
