The Most Authentic Valencian Beach
It is difficult to determine where Malvarrosa Beach ends and Cabanyal Beach begins: both blend into a continuous stretch of fine golden sand. Extending northwards from the Hotel Las Arenas, Malvarrosa is perhaps the most famous beach and has always been synonymous with Valencia.
Its name derives from the beautiful "malva rosa" (hollyhock) flowers that were cultivated in this area during the 19th century. Traditionally a destination for relaxation and leisure for locals, it has also inspired great Spanish artists throughout history. The famous Valencian writer Vicente Blasco Ibañez had his villa next to this beach, which is now a museum.
Today, Malvarrosa Beach offers a full range of services for bathers, including accessible facilities for people with disabilities, sports activities, and a wide variety of restaurants. Everything you need to enjoy a perfect day by the sea.
Why Visit Malvarrosa Beach
- It is the most suitable beach for visitors with reduced mobility, featuring walkways and ramps that reach the shore.
- To practice scuba diving and many other water sports.
- For its proximity to restaurants, leisure spots, and cultural sites.
- It has a more local feel and is the favorite choice for many Valencians.
What to Do at Malvarrosa Beach
In addition to enjoying the sun and the Mediterranean Sea, these are some of the things you can also do in Malvarrosa:
Dive in a reef
Did you know that Spain's first artificial underwater reef was built in Valencia, right next to Malvarrosa Beach? Diving and snorkeling enthusiasts can explore the seabed just a few meters from the coast.
Outdoor games and sports
Join crossfit or fitness classes on the sand or enjoy your favorite water activity in its marked nautical channel.
Culture by the sea
Very close to the beach, you can visit the Blasco Ibañez House-Museum. This is where the writer lived who immortalized many Valencian traditions in novels such as “Reeds and Mud” or “The Cabin”.
