"González Martí" National Museum of Ceramics (Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas)

The National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts González Martí pays tribute to a craft deeply rooted in Valencia. You will find not only colourful Valencian tiles, but also the largest national ceramics collection, ranging from 8th-century pieces to designs by artists such as Picasso.

As impressive as the collection is the building that houses it: the Palace of the Marqués de Dos Aguas. This former 18th-century ancestral home features opulent eclectic-style rooms, combining everything from Rococo elements to Chinoiserie motifs following successive renovations. Its stunning Baroque alabaster façade will leave you speechless.

What to see at the National Museum of Ceramics

Allow at least one hour to appreciate both the Palace itself and the ceramics collection.

✓ The façade

Built in the Baroque style using alabaster, it features allegorical figures of the Júcar and Turia rivers (the "Dos Aguas" or Two Waters from the Palace's name). Presiding over them is a sculpture of the Virgin of the Rosary, set amidst abundant decoration.

✓ The Palace

Go up the grand main staircase and admire the Palace's elegant 19th-century rooms. They retain their original, perfectly restored decoration, reflecting the opulence of the era.

✓ Carriage collection

Don't miss the collection of sumptuous 18th-century carriages in the Palace's Carriage Courtyard.

✓ Ceramics collection

In rooms decorated with vibrant tiles, you can take a journey through history via ceramics. You will find Christian, Mudéjar, medieval, and modern ceramics, including works by Picasso.

✓ And much more...

The Museum also offers temporary exhibitions, guided and dramatised tours, children's workshops, and intimate concerts in its halls. And, if you visit at Christmas, you can see a wonderful 18th-century Neapolitan nativity scene. Check the schedule before your visit.
