Casa Forestal de La Devesa

La Casa Forestal de La Devesa is one of the most unique spots in L’Albufera Natural Park. Surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and just a few meters from the sea, this former forest rangers’ residence stands as a living example of traditional Valencian architecture.

Walking through its rooms is like stepping into the past, thanks to original elements that have been carefully preserved, such as an 18th-century ceramic altarpiece, a traditional kitchen with a water jug rack, and beautiful murals from the José Gimeno factory in Manises. Its privileged location—among dunes, forest, and beach—makes for a peaceful and authentic experience deeply connected to Valencia’s natural essence.

Upstairs, an exhibition with photographs and informative panels tells the story of how local citizens played a decisive role in protecting this area from urban development in the 1960s. Their strong opposition led to the suspension of the project, and in 1986, L’Albufera was officially declared a Natural Park. The exhibition shows how the coastal dunes were restored, an effort that helped recover a highly valuable ecological and scenic ecosystem, while also protecting the flora behind the dunes.
