TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center

Plaza Redonda, Valencia's most unique square

Not all squares are square. In Valencia, one of the liveliest and most interesting is circular in shape. Located right in the city centre, Plaza Redonda is a historic enclave devoted to small shops and Valencian traditions. Since Muslim times, this area was already the commercial heart of the city, home to the fish market and butcher’s, until in the 19th century the square was built as we know it today, designed as a perfect circle by architect Salvador Escrig.

In the past, on Sundays it hosted a small market where children swapped stickers and you could buy everything from antiques to pets. Between 2008 and 2012, it underwent a complete renovation, including a new roof. Today, the square still preserves some traditional lace and thread stalls, as well as ceramic shops and other artisan products, along with cafés and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to pick up an original souvenir from Valencia.
