The historic horse races are returning to Pinedo's beach
From 10 to 13 August 2026, Creu de la Conca beach in Pinedo will host the traditional ‘Correguda de Joies’, an equestrian competition in which participants ride 700 metres along the beach on horseback without any kind of saddle.
For three days, the riders will compete in head-to-head elimination rounds against the backdrop of a unique natural landscape, with the aim of winning the competition and receiving the ‘joia’ (a silk handkerchief placed on a laurel wreath) as their trophy.
The first day, on Monday 10th, will see the animals weighed and examined by the vets, and the jockeys will carry out their first training sessions.
The races will take place over the following days (11-13 August), with the trophy presentation taking place on the final day.
Over a century of tradition
Historically, more than 150 years ago, most of the villages in l’Horta Sud region used to hold this unusual horse race in their orchards.
At present, Pinedo is the only town in the Valencian Community that still celebrates the ‘Correguda de Joies’ during its patron saint’s festivities, so don’t miss the chance to come and see this cultural event of tourist interest in Valencia.
Tradition, history and sport await you on the beach in this district. Don’t miss it!
