What to do in Valencia during the Copa del Rey basketball tournament

Cultural events and culinary experiences to enjoy between matches.

If you’re heading to Valencia to watch the Copa del Rey basketball tournament and you’ve already got your game tickets, congratulations, you’re halfway there.

The next step is to plan how to spend your mornings, where to eat before the match, where to have dinner, and where to continue the evening.

Before all that, let’s start with the most important thing: how to get there.

How to get to Roig Arena and move around during the event

Roig Arena has excellent transport links, so you can forget about your car and opt for a more sustainable way to get around.

In fact, the most convenient way to get there is by public transport or on foot.

You can easily reach the stadium with bus lines 7, 13, 14, 35 and 99, all of which have stops very close to the venue, or with tram line 10.

If you want to come by car, do so well in advance so that you can park in the area.

Things to see in Valencia apart from the matches

Just a stone’s throw from the Roig Arena is one of Valencia’s greatest landmarks: the City of Arts and Sciences.

This futuristic complex is home to the Oceanogràfic aquarium, the Museu de les Ciències science museum and CaixaForum, where you can lose yourself in exhibitions and activities, enjoy a show at the Hemisfèric cinema, stroll along the walkways and sit by the ponds.

If you fancy a change of scenery, why not head to the historic centre and visit the IVAM, which is currently hosting powerful exhibitions such as Andrea Canepa’s immersive experience, alongside “Kara Walker” and “Habitar las sombras” (Inhabiting the Shadows).

In the same area, you will find the CCCC, with exhibitions such as “The Transformation of Valencia”, “Closed Circuit” and “The Ritual of Respawn”, and the MuVIM, where you can see the exhibition by photographer Luis Vidal Corella.

In addition to all this, don’t miss the chance to visit some of the city’s landmarks, such as the Central Market, Valencia Cathedral, known as the Valencian Sistine Chapel, and the Church of Los Santos Juanes, which has just reopened its doors after extensive restoration work both inside and out.

Where to have lunch or dinner

There are plenty of options in the Roig Arena area for discovering all the secrets of the “Larder of the Mediterranean”.

You can find all sorts of great places to eat, and if you’d rather not stray too far from the stadium, there’s also a wide range of catering options inside the Roig Arena itself.

If you feel like leaving the venue, there are plenty of options.

Fancy some tapas? Then you can choose Cremaet or Bar Tonyina, ideal places to share dishes without giving up good taste.

If you’re a fan of purely Mediterranean cuisine, you can opt for A tu gusto, Àtic-Palau Alameda, Bocado Bar or Contrapunto Les Arts and, if you’re looking for signature cuisine, take a look at Apicius, one of the city’s great gastronomic references, with Michelin recognition and two Repsol Suns.

And if you’re looking to fill your stomach and top it off with a few drinks, choose the trendy and recently opened Alegal or Jardí Bar, in the luxurious Westin hotel.
