Interested in learning about post-war art?
Between February 16 and June 18, 2023, the IVAM will host an interesting exhibit on Danish artist Asger Jon entitled "Open Creation and its Enemies: A look at Asger Jorn".
His work lets us understand how art changed after World War II and its relations with abstract expressionism, pop art and social practice. It also invites us to delve into different moments of history and into situations that Jorn was involved in since his birth in 1914.
The exhibit is not presented in chronological order, nor does it collect only a selection of plastic works; rather, it includes publications, photographs, films, as well as abundant documentary material, experimental publications and magazines.
This exhibit also features the most in-depth study to date on the Scandinavian Institute of Comparative Vandalism (SICV).
Whaaaat?
This was a historical experimental art research project that Jorn undertook in the 1960s in an effort to produce a series of photo books documenting "10,000 years of Nordic folk art".
Don't miss it because it has been compared to Aby Warburg's "Atlas Mnemosyne" and André Malraux's "Imaginary Museum".
Quite an accomplishment!
