Battle of the Flowers: A Colourful Finale to Valencia’s July Fair
Categories: parties and traditions.
TOURISTIC AREA: City of Arts and Alameda
Carnations from the Valencian countryside bring joy and colour to the Paseo de la Alameda on the last Sunday in July
The traditional Battle of the Flowers has been celebrated since 1891. Held on the last Sunday in July, it transforms the streets of Valencia with a carpet of multicoloured flowers.
It may sound hard to believe, but it’s true. More than 1.2 million carnations grown in the Valencian countryside are thrown by the crew on the floral floats to the spectators in the stands during the parade.
The flowers come from 30 hanegadas of land sown in March in fields across Alboraya, Meliana and Alcàsser, among other towns. They are also used to add colour to the decorated floats during the traditional punxà, which takes place on the evening before the battle.
The parade features girls and women shortlisted to join the courts of honour of Valencia's Falleras Mayores, representatives from different fallas groups, and the Falleras Mayores of Valencia themselves.
These courts of honour are joined by very special guests, including the Bellea del Foc and the queen of the festivities of Castellón.
To experience the most colourful event of the year, make your way to the Paseo de la Alameda in Valencia on Sunday 26 July from 8.00 pm.
It's the perfect way to round off the 2026 Great July Fair.
Don't miss it!
