The city reinforces its commitment to sustainability with the installation of charging infrastructure for electric boats at the ports of El Palmar and El Saler.

L'Albufera de València takes a decisive step towards the electrification of its pleasure and fishing boats. Valencia City Council and the Iberdrola España Foundation have signed an agreement to install new electric charging points at the ports of El Palmar and El Saler, aiming to accelerate the transition from current diesel boats to electric-propulsion vessels. A measure that transforms the experience of sailing on the lake and reinforces Valencia's commitment as European Green Capital.

16 boats charging simultaneously

The planned infrastructure includes 5 double charging units at the El Palmar piers and 3 at El Saler, which will allow for energy to be supplied to a total of 16 boats simultaneously. They are expected to be operational throughout the summer of 2026, coinciding with the peak season for visits to the natural park.

A natural park aspiring to be a Biosphere Reserve

L'Albufera is the main natural space in the Valencia metropolitan area and one of the most valuable wetlands in the western Mediterranean. Its traditional boat tours are one of the city's most in-demand experiences, with thousands of visitors arriving each year to discover the lake, the rice fields, and a landscape directly linked to the origin of Valencian paella.

The natural park is currently in the process of being declared a Biosphere Reserve, driven by an agreement between all the surrounding municipalities. In this context, the electrification of the boats contributes directly to the reduction of polluting emissions in an ecosystem of high environmental value.

Valencia, European Green Capital and city committed to decarbonization

The installation of these charging points is part of Valencia's strategy as European Green Capital and Mission City for climate neutrality. The city works systematically so that its main tourist assets are also benchmarks of sustainability: from urban mobility to visits to its natural spaces.

For the traveler, this translates into an experience in L'Albufera that is progressively quieter, cleaner, and more respectful of the environment they have come to enjoy.
