From 16 to 18 March, every night at 00:00, Valencia lights up with spectacular fireworks from the City of Arts and Sciences.
Mascletà of the Fallas festival in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento
Categories: fallas.
TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center
From March 1 to 19, vibrate every day at two in the afternoon with explosions of gunpowder and colors
To say the ground vibrates is a massive understatement. What happens in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Valencia every day from 1 to 19 March at 2:00 pm is a sensory and social phenomenon that attracts fans from all over the world.
And pay attention, because the experience begins even before the first blast: the atmosphere ahead of the mascletà fills with musical entertainment, with bands from València’s neighbourhoods and outlying districts providing a soundtrack for the minutes before the firing and leading into the traditional “senyor pirotècnic, pot començar la mascletà” with their festive repertoires.
Setting off a mascletà is a technical challenge because everything must be measured to perfection. Not only for safety, which is a given, but because it must contain the right amount of firecrackers, colours, and bangs that fill the air with a thunderous roar and an unforgettable scent of gunpowder.
Not to mention the firing speed: moving from a gentle start to its maximum level in a balanced crescendo.
Such a show ends with thunderous applause and a great atmosphere on the surrounding terraces, where tourists and the luckiest locals gather together.
The best way to see a mascletà?
Every day at 2:00 pm between 1 and 19 March, the one and only mascletà begins punctually. These are sessions where the best pyrotechnic companies showcase their professionalism and skills.
