Welcome to Macel.lum. This is a restaurant that began its life serving classic tapas and has grown up to become one of the most elegant restaurants in the city.

Benefiting from an ideal location in the centre of Valencia, those who venture to this chic and stylish restaurant are greeted with a beautiful interior space decorated with exposed brickwork, towering ceilings, wooden beams and low lighting. Different shades of chocolate brown make up the decoration detail across the 45-seater restaurant with plush sofas in the chill out room, a private dining room, a swish bar and Arabic-style intricate patterns adorning the floors and walls.

Food is served at lunch and dinnertime with dishes based around a unique concept – to offer simple, classic food with traditional ingredients and intense flavours, creating what Head Chef Alejandro Platero describes as “works of culinary art.” The menu has a particular focus on fish and seafood, perhaps in a nod to the daily journeys that the staff make to Valencia’s Central Market to ensure every dish contains the freshest seasonal ingredients. Mouth-watering specialties include bluefin tuna with Spatchcock chicken, and the fabulous semi-salted mackerel with Valencia tomato gazpacho. There are also more than six types of rice on offer – a crop for which Valencia is well-known – along with daily ceviche and fish specials according to that day’s catch.

Macellum is outstanding as it offers the perfect fusion of elaborate, elegant decoration and a welcoming dining space with exquisite food and the highest quality customer service. The food is unfussy and unpretentious, yet no detail has been left unattended to ensure the best quality taste and presentation. The tasting menus offer the ideal way to sample a variety of complementary flavours and get a real taste of local specialties.
