The festival returns to Sagunto like every summer. It is a traditional summer night in Valencia which allows people to experience great classical theatre productions under the starry sky within a Roman Theatre. In its XXXVI edition, Sagunt a Escena has opted for Shakespeare, Valle Inclán or Cicerón and in addition brings music and a children's alternative programme with around 30 shows, 11 of which will be performed in the Roman Theatre and 11 at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre, the Centro Cívico, at the castle of Sagunto or the Glorieta.

The highlights of the event, which this year features the slogan Paraules i sons, are:

  • 26 july: Somni, an adaptation of Midsummer Night's Dream.
  • 31 July: Spring consecration, with the Jove Orquestra and the Jove Ballet of the Generalitat Valenciana.
  • 2, 3 and 4 August: Rodrigo, dear maestro.
  • 6 August: El Quijote del Plata (The Quixote of La Plata), with the Uruguayan Sodre National Ballet.
  • 8 and 9 August: Old friend Cicerón, by Ernesto Caballero directed by Mario Gas.
  • 11 August: Jhonetsu, Passion, with Yamato / Tambores de Japón company.
  • 17 August: Alzheimer's Charity Gala.
  • 20 August: Mira si hem corregut terres, by Spanish Brass and Carles Dénia.
  • 22nd August: Mastodonte, with Assier Etxendía and Enrico Barbaro.
  • 24th and 25th August: Divine Words, by Valle Inclán, directed by José Carlos Plaza.
  • 31st August: Dancing with Carmen, flamenco opera with the Oscar de Manuel company.


In addition, there are other performances such as Hamlet, Lazarillo, el hambriento or Mi cita con Escipión.
