133 fallas commissions regale the Plaza de los Fueros and Plaza de la Reina with Valencian dancing outfits
History, tradition and dance come together in the exhibitions of regional Valencian dance, organized by the Fallas commissions. "Balls al Carrer" (Street Dancing) showcases typical dances performed in the city's streets and squares, as well as in Valencia's villages.
These traditional dances to the rhythm of the dolçaina and tabalet, which are the Valencian terms for the dulzaina and the tabal, or drum, have a ritualistic character associated with festivals and provide a showcase for rhythm and coordination.
As with everything in life, they need a structure, and in Valencian dance, that is provided by a procession of couples led from the front or the back, and dressed in regional costumes.
These duos conform to the shape of the place hosting the dance: elongated, if in a street, or round, if in a square.
Once laid out, they follow the rhythm of the tabal and, when the dulzaina begins to play, they move and sway to the sound of the melody.
In short, "Balls al Carrer" is the perfect opportunity to learn about Valencian clothing and the music of the typical instruments of this festival
