Race of San Silvestre
TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center
The San Silvestre Fun Run is a popular way of saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming in the new, and is celebrated in various locations around the world. Although the actual saint's day is 31 December, in Valencia the race is always held on 30 December. The run starts at 20:00 in Calle Xátiva, while the finish line is in Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The route passes through Guillem de Castro, Blanquerías, Plaza América, San Vicente and a host of other well-known streets.
The distance is 5.3 kilometres and there is a time limit of 75 minutes for completing it. There is a competitive version of the run (limited to 600 entrants) and a non-competitive version (limited to 17,000 entrants), for those who only wish to see out the old year in a fun way. Traditionally, non-competitive entrants run the race in fancy dress.
Competitive entrants must register at the offices of the Correcaminos Sports Club (Carrer de l'Arquebisbe Fabián y Fuero), while non-competitive entrants can do so at the sports department of El Corté Inglés. Registration for non-competitive entrants costs €1, with all proceeds going to charity.
