What to do WITHOUT children this summer: Valencia for adults

Public date:
Thursday 26 July 2018

The holidays have finally arrived and the children are away in their summer camp... so why not take advantage of your ‘freedom’ to make a getaway? Or perhaps you’re still too young to be thinking about having a family and just want a great holiday with your friends or your partner? Relax and enjoy a good meal, or get wild and dance until dawn... in Valencia we have an endless list of suggestions, designed only for adults.

As in any time of the year, you can go shopping or visit the museums, book a table at a Michelin-starred restaurant or indulge yourself in a spa treatment. But, in addition, in the summer you can enjoy sunny days on the beach and warm nights of outdoor fun. These are some of our top recommendations for adults this summer.

  1. Nights (and days) amongst the vineyards: How about starting with a toast with the best Valencian wine under the moonlight? The Bodega Vera de Estenas in Requena offers a Full Moon & Wine Night on 28 July, with a guided tour and a gourmet dinner with live music amongst the vineyards. If you can’t make it, you can sign up for the next ‘A day at the vineyards’ event in October or get on the Wine Bus. There are excursions every Saturday that visit the wineries of Utiel-Requena, including wine tasting and a meal at a local traditional restaurant.
  2. Shows at the Casino: Valencia may not be Las Vegas but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time at the casino. In addition to trying your luck at the roulette or the poker table, at Casino Cirsa you can enjoy the best shows this summer. Are you a Queen fan? On 10 August there is a tribute to the group. If you prefer something saucier, sign up for the dinner-show The Golfus Cabaret on 11 August. Or have a laugh with the monologues by top comedians in the Opera Valencia programme.
  3. Chill out by the sea: Do you want to sunbathe without children running around or jumping in the pool? Reserve one of the in-water sun loungers at the infinity pool of the Marina Beach Club in Valencia, or one of its Thai cabins on the beach. You can enjoy food and drinks service without moving from your deckchair, or have a cocktail without leaving the water, in the purest chill-out atmosphere with DJ music. An oasis of peace... only for adults! And if you want to go for a swim, the adjacent Malvarrosa beach has a new, 500-metre long swimming channel.
  4. Sleepless nights: The night is always young in Valencia. After the children have gone to sleep, this is the best time to enjoy the bar terraces in areas such as Ruzafa, on the seafront and at the Marina. On the floating terrace of High Cube, for example, you can dance until late to the music of DJs, or enjoy a cocktail feeling the sea breeze. Do you prefer a more tropical setting? Sign up for the night parties at the gardens of the Terrace de l'Umbracle in the City of Arts and Sciences.
  5. The mother of all tomato battles: Sometimes grown-ups like behaving like children and La Tomatina in Buñol is the perfect excuse to do so. Leave behind your inhibitions, grab a few ripe tomatoes and join in the funniest food fight in the world. This is one of Spain’s most popular festivals, which is why you must book tickets to access the ‘battlefield’, or you can buy a complete tour with transportation from Valencia and entry to the After Party. Just remember to take goggles with you and don’t let the acidic tomato juice enter your eyes itch and spoil the party!

Happy summer holidays!
