San Vicente Mártir Festival

San Vicente Mártir Festival

Vicente was a young deacon who was martyred in Valencia by order of the Roman emperor Diocleciano in the year 303, a deed that caused great unrest among the people of the city.

Vicente was named as the Patron Saint of the city and his execution is remembered through ceremonial events that take place in his honour. On the morning of the 22nd of January there is a procession dedicated to the Saint; the route begins and ends at the city Cathedral, passing through some of the significant places related to his martyrdom and the march closes with a Papal mass.Vicente was named as the Patron Saint of the city and his execution is remembered through ceremonial events that take place in his honour.
