The Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) will hold educational activities and open a new exhibition, Past, Present and Future, before holding a Valencian-style music event in the foyer in the evening.
IVAM has a resident jazz orchestra – the only museum in Spain to have such an affiliation. Saxophonist Valencian Ramon Cardo will direct the concert, which will include a selection of compositions from the history of the orchestral jazz, as well as a sample of jazz fusion and cant d’ estil written by Thistle.
The museum San Pío V is using the global day of the museum to commemorate former director, Fernando Benito Doménech (1949-2011).
The tribute will consist of two acts: a presentation of two works of Jose Saborit and in the evening, a service will be held under the leadership of Benito Navarrete Prieto, professor of History of Art of the University of Alcala de Henares.
San Pio V is also holding guided tours of the permanent collection.
This day has been held on 18th May since the inaugural event in 1977. It is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society.
