One of the most anticipated events in the entire Valencia region will come to the city on June 12, when the streets will be transformed into a high-fashion catwalk as the Valencia Summer Shopening Night is set to bring the already-vibrant city to life.
The main party will take place around the central hub of the city between Calle de la Paz and Gran Vía Germanías, which will be hosting a range of enviable fashion names from well-known high-street lines to exclusive luxury and designer brands. The beautiful area around Mercado de Colón – a modernist, art nouveau building that has been recently restored – plays host to lingerie brand Intimissimi and jewellery designers Pandora as well as Guess, Calzedonia and Lacoste among others. Calle Jorge Juan also takes a big slice of the action with Comptoir des Cotonniers, Geox and G-Star Raw just some of the famous fashion and footwear names taking part on the street.
With music, colour and exquisite fashions on every corner, the event is set to be truly dazzling. The ultimate immersive experience will see live DJs on hand to spin some fantastic tunes as a background to this exclusive shopping opportunity while live bands and singers will also line the streets. Delicious food will also be on offer to provide the most dedicated of shoppers with some much-needed sustenance. The warm summer evenings that Valencia enjoys will no doubt enhance the night, encouraging visitors to stroll the lively streets late into the night, taking in all the action.
The event kicks off at 8.30pm and is scheduled to shut down by midnight but if you’re still raring to go, Valencia offers plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants to finish off the night in style.
For those of us who simply love to shop, there’s no need to despair when the night is over as Valencia is a shopper’s paradise all year round. The city features luxury designer boutiques, high-street names and one-off emporiums to fulfil all shopping desires. El Corte Inglés and its surrounding area includes a diverse range of shops, in particular the fantastic bargain shoe emporiums that line Calle Don Juan de Austria.
La Calle Colón alone is home to Zara, Mango, Oysho and Massimo Dutti, as well as Spanish designers Adolfo Dominguez and Armand Basi. Elsewhere, the picturesque Plaza Redonda hosts a weekly flea market on Sundays or if you fancy taking a break from the warm weather, the Aqua shopping centre on Calle Menorca houses some stunning upmarket boutiques.
Closer to the centre, luxury fashion hunters should visit the shops along Calle Sorní and Calle Cirilo Amorós, as well as Calle Poeta Querol – also known as “the golden mile”. The Town Hall Square is must-see for all visitors to the city and home to some gorgeous boutiques, including Dolce & Gabbana and Donna Karan.
With hot fashion, hot weather and hot bargains, make sure you’re in Valencia in June to experience the fabulous open shopping night.
