A new series of App reviews will help you use technology to enhance your holiday in Valencia.
Foursquare isn’t a new app – it has more than 40 million users – but it is an ideal app to help you find traveller-reviewed places worth visiting in Valencia.
Foursquare shot to fame as a social networking tool. You would be updated via the app or Facebook or Twitter of where your friends had just checked in. Perfect for catching up spontaneously if you are nearby but in the travel context, great for seeing what visitors to Valencia really rate, just by the volume of people checking in. It’s the virtual word of mouth you can really use when you are in a new city and don’t want to just visit the traditional haunts of tourists, but the most current ones.
Top rated locations in Valencia are the City of Arts and Sciences, where you can pick up plenty of tips for how to divide your time in this captivating expanse of modern architecture and attractions like the Oceanografic, and the Mercat Central (Central Market), where you’ll find great food-hunting advice but also gems like “If you purchased goods, keep your receipt so you can use public restrooms without charge” – invaluable for a fuss-free visit.
Foursquare says: “The way it works is simple – fire up the app when you arrive at any given place (everything from restaurants to churches are listed) and you’ll see a list of tips from those who’ve been before you (‘try the cheeseburger’, ‘arrive by 9am for a good pew’, etc.). Check in regularly enough and you’ll claim virtual mayorship of that particular venue, with some venues even offering perks (a free pint, discounts, and so on) when you claim the crown.”
Foursquare is easy for beginners and perfect for seasoned users to get the most from their new location. Download it for free on iPhone, Andriod and Windows Phone.
