There is always something happening in Valencia, and over the next few weeks we are going to tell you what is in store for 2013. Firstly, let’s cover the big events. Some of these you can participate in, others are just for watching. Or some, like Fallas, cover both!
XIV VALENCIA FASHION WEEK
From 6 to 9 February at the Palacio de la Exposición, Valencia Fashion Week bursts onto the city streets with a programme of creative and carefully staged fashion shows.
Arguably Valencia’s most famous event: Las Fallas. On 1st March, the first of the mascletas (an explosion of firecrackers) in the square in front of the City Hall announces the start of the festival period, although the most important events begin on the 16th, by which time the city has been decorated with over 700 symbols and figures. On 17th & 18th a floral offering is made to our Lady of the Forsaken. At midnight on 19th, the fallas are set alight.
September sees Valencia Triathlon take place in and around the Juan Carlos I Royal Marina. Triathletes begin by swimming through the waters of the port, past the Veles e Vents building, before cycling around some of the city’s most iconic tourist attractions and finally running along the Paseo Marítimo Promenade.
OPEN 500 TENNIS
In October, the world’s best tennis players can be found in the “Ágora”: a unique setting located in the City of Arts and Sciences, for the Valencia Open 500, a prestigious indoor tournament.
MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The last race of the MotoGP season, the Valencian Community Generali Grand Prix of motorcycling is to be held in November at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste.
Every autumn, the city prepares for this major sporting event. Held in November, the Valencia Marathon‘s starting point is the City of Arts and Sciences, and it will bring together top athletes who will race through various parts of the city.
