Father Mos

Jerónimo Jacinto Espinosa. Padre Mos. (1628).
Son of the Valladolid painter, Jerónimo Rodríguez, who went
to live in the town of Cocentaina.
His work reveals a solid naturalism and highly contrasting
illumination, of which he made use to achieve expressions
of great religious intensity. He painted mostly for convents
and had various disciples.
Among many outstanding works was the splendid portrait
of the Dominican Father Mos, as well as many religious
themes he painted for Mercedarians, Jesuits, etc.
